Creative Gaming Award Show

Once again, the Creative Gaming Award Show closes PLAY19! On Saturday, the jury will announce the winners of the Creative Gaming Award, after having talked to all the nominees and playing the nominated games. Additionally, the winner of the Audience Award will be announced, which PLAY19 visitors have chosen from all games exhibited at the festival.

Before the ceremony, Janina Kozubik aka OddNina and Manuel Fritsch from Insert Moin host a Live Let’s Play with the nominees – for all of you, who have not seen the games until then or those who cannot get enough of them.

Afterwards, we will celebrate at the After-Show at the PLAY19 exhibition!

The Award Show will be in English.

Insert Moin Podcast Sofa

Insert Moin – probably the most daily video game podcast in the world – has been broadcasting a new episode about video games and game culture every day since 2010. As part of PLAY19, the presenters Manuel Fritsch and Michael Cherdchupan will set up a cozy podcast sofa on which they will interview developers and other famous guests of the festival.

Visitors can have a look at the podcast producers live at work and, of course, engage in dialogue with them.
The Podcast sofa will be in German.

PLAY Party

As celebratory as we will open PLAY19, it will also be closed. Right after the Creative Gaming Award Show, the PLAY Party takes place at the PLAY19 exhibition. We celebrate the winners of the Creative Gaming Award and this festival’s last evening. DJ Barbara provides the according soundtrack.

Alexander Merbeth is busy. He is an actor for theatre, film and TV, member of the cobratheater.cobra collective and voice actor for audio drama and video games. Lately, he gave his voice to Louis from The Walking Dead, Season 4: The Final Season (Telltale Games) and Nathan from South Park: The Fractured but Whole (Ubisoft).

During this artist talk, he will talk about becoming a voice actor for video games, what this work looks like and how it feels to impersonate a zombie.

Mathilde’s work is all about noises and sounds. That’s why you’ll always meet the composer with a recording device in her pocket. Besides productions for advertisement, Mathilde Hoffmann is a sound designer at Hamburg based developer Daedalic, where she worked on The Pillars of the Earth and Unrailed!.

In this artist talk, we want to know how she finds the best sounds, which monsters she likes to give a voice and how her work as a composer differs from her work as a sound designer.

Artist Talk with Riad Djemili

Riad Djemili is working in the gaming industry since 2005, calling himself a subversive game maker. He is co-founder of the Berlin-based indie game studio Maschinen-Mensch, whose debut title “The Curious Expedition” won the German Developer Award. Machine-Mensch currently works with „The Curious Expedition 2“ on the sequel to their debut.

In addition, he is part of the Berlin indie collective “Saftladen”, works with 5 other people on „Codecks“ – a project management tool for game developers and has curated political game jams around the world for the Goethe Institut. And he also worked on the game “Spec Ops” some time ago.

Inner Demons – An experimental Live Action Role Play – Workshop

Inner demons – a choir from the subconcious. Who doesn’t know them? Angel on the right, devil on the left shoulder, guilt, revenge thoughts, envy, anxiety, repulsion, anger, happiness, sadness, surprise in between. A dialogue, an argument, a trial. They advise, whisper, criticize, reassure, encourage, calm… They assess risks, evaluate chances, conquer one’s weaker self – or not.

Inspired by Blackbox LARPs, this workshop is an experimental Live Action Role Play. Participants can create explore their inner demons, with fun, improvisation in an analogue digital world, filled with avatars, programmers and multiplayers.

Up to 60 participants allowed. This Workshop will be in German.
